One Room Challenge | Week 3
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | Week 8
We’ve made it to Week 3 of the One Room Challenge™!
So… we didn’t accomplish much this week because our daughter graduated from high school over the weekend. And I’m sure you will all be shocked to hear that we are still debating paint colors, rugs, curtains, etc.
So I came up with a few “MOOD BOARDS” which sounds like something that they did in the 1980s before the internets and Pinterest but sometimes it helps me to think about how the colors will go together. And what will work with our fabulous couch!
OPTION 1
I really like this idea because I love the light blue/orange/salmon color pallet. Blue is the opposite of orange (duh) so I really like the juxtaposition of this. I don’t want a “pop of color” or monochromatic or just a couple of colors. I want a nice blend of colors so that there’s fun all over. This combination is probably a little more sophisticated than I’d usually go for. Gary will only allow trim to be painted Dover White but I was thinking I could barter and paint the entire room Dover White. I like the idea of the white/white/white and then the pop of the orange couch and blue drapes. Like hooray for sexy drapes! I LOVE flokati or shag rugs because (I have the taste of a whore from an old movie or a Siamese cat) they are so soft but this very flat textured abstract rug looks like art. I just want to nail that rug to the wall and hug it.
OPTION 2
Ugh. What to say about this. I love the wall color so much! I’m just obsessed with how warm it is and everyone looks so sexy with a pink glow. Most people anyway. I think putting a modern/minimalist rug is the best way to go so that it doesn’t take away from all of the color. Yes, I just said “minimalist” in a sentence. I think if you have colored furniture and colored walls that having a colored rug may just make you feel like you are standing in Rainbow Brite’s vomit. Unless that color is Marlboro Blue… which brings us to:
OPTION 3
I feel like Gary is kind of… NOT interested in this room. He seems very non-committal. Most of the items that are going in this room are items I LOVE and have kind of just randomly brought home over the years… items that he maybe wasn’t entirely thrilled about (He did buy me the orange brothel couch but then there is: The nude paintings. The tole. The fringe. The Jonathan Adler sculptures. The golden nun collection. My Jesus collection. My mannequin.) so I’m thinking this may be my one chance to just really go for it with color and he can just ignore this room and I’ll put all the things he doesn’t love in it. This brings us to BLUE walls, green velvet drapes, and some gaudy rug that looks like it time traveled from 1960s L.A. It makes me want to dance to my Diana Ross records while wearing a caftan. So a typical Saturday.
Anyhoo… Let us know your thoughts and we will see you next week!
